He comes of a renowned family of Dhrupad Exponents who trace their lineage back to the Senia Gharana. The late Pt. Ram Chatur Mallick was a gem at the court of Maharaja Kameshwar, while another renowned musician was the late Someshwar Pathak. He is a top Grade artiste of AIR and has been giving public performances since 1958. In a long performing career spanning 40 years he has perfumed all over the country as well as in the World Music Conference in Rome and in the Festival of India in Germany, France and by HMV in India. He is presently a reader in Dhrupad at the Indira Kala Sangeet Vishvavidyalaya, khariagarh (MP) since 1983.
