Orange Festival of Music and Adventure 2018 ended on a high note with a grand performance by Iron Maidens, in Dambuk. OFAM, the unique orange themed Adventure and Music festival held in Arunachal Pradesh, grew even bigger in 2018 with more than 10000+ tourists and 30000+ locals attending the festival. As compared to last year 18 bands, this year the festival was attended by 28 music bands, including international bands like Thundermother from Sweden and others.
The event was inaugurated by Honourable CM of Arunachal Pradesh, Mr. Pema Khandu where he mentioned that the festivals like OFAM, which he initiated during his tenure as tourism minister, aim to spur the growth in tourism in Arunachal Pradesh. He also mentioned that Tourism would be a game changer for Arunachal Pradesh and help the state to improve connectivity in the region. This would also benefit the locals economically.
The idea behind the festival as mentioned by Mr. Abu Tayeng, OFAM director, earlier is to bring in people from all over the world to explore the wild natural beauty of Arunachal Pradesh and experience the local way of life and culture in an untouched destination. OFAM has been growing bigger year on year and becoming a huge attraction for tourists planning to visit Arunachal Pradesh. He also hoped that the next edition will be bigger and grander than this year both in terms of visitors and participants. He also said, “We plan to take OFAM on an international stage and create a buzz on national circuit as well. The festival attracts visitors not only from India but internationally as well, which showcase its potential. We hope that upcoming editions will receive more attention and fame, thus ensuring a bigger tourists’ inflow in the region and better employment opportunities for locals.”
Apart from enthralling music by 28 bands which performed on stage, crowds also witnessed the thrilling JKtyres 4X4 Fury, enjoyed adventure sports which were organized in collaboration with NIMAS and the natural beauty of Dambuk. This year 25 Indian bands from all over the country and 3 International Bands from different parts of the globe made the crowds groove to their music. From local favourites Trance effect to Thundermother from Sweden, bands gave absorbing performances which kept the energy levels high through the evening. Rains battered the venue on occasion, but the crowds braved the weather conditions and made their presence felt. Lead vocalist of the Iron Maidens, Kirsten Rosenberg said, “I was surprised to see the enthusiasm with which the crowd turned up even after bad weather conditions. She mentioned that hers is a tribute band and was pleasantly surprised to see how many music lovers came together celebrated in this beautiful location. Iron Maidens, she said, surely look forward to visiting again.”
Festival Proceedings had begun with cultural events and the flag-off of the JKtyres 4X4 fury rally event. Local favourites the Manabhum Off-roaders Club of Arunachal won the title with a slender lead of 5 points. They hung on to the lead which they gained on the first stage. Last year’s defending champs Gerrari Off-roaders finished in a close 2nd.
The scenic lower Dibung valley was a perfect setting for adventure lovers to get their fill of adrenaline in this year’s OFAM. With mighty rivers like the Dirang and Brahmaputra flowing in close vicinity and rainforests covered east Himalayan ranges surrounding the vast orange orchards, adventure activities like zip lining, para gliding, para sailing, white water rafting, dirt cycling, speed boating and elephant rides were the popularly enjoyed activities at this festival. OFAM organisers collaborated with NIMAS, National institute for Mountaineering and Adventure Sports a MoD run institute, for arranging the activities on offer. Many adventure lovers enjoyed the para motoring which took flyers on a 20 min flight over the entire Lower Dibung valley. The landing among the orange trees excited many thrill seekers and nature lovers alike. Zip lines passed over the orange orchards which gave participants birds eye view of the trees below. Rapids of grade 1+K3 and 2+K2 on a 10 km long route kept the adrenaline pumping for the participants of white water rafting. These rapids flung many rafts across the river, but teams learnt how to manoeuvre this force of nature with sound guidance from the NIMAS instructors. Elephant rides gave a leisurely vibe when compared to other adventure activities.
With so many adventure activities, hungry crowds were treated to delicious food and fine music on the day and night stages. Food stalls by the locals served up local delicacies like orange pudding, Rice wine, variety of local beers, egg with ginger, farm fresh orange juice and all time favourite Momos to name a few. This unique one-of-a-kind orange themed festival also hosted an orange eating competition!! Stalls which showcased kiwi fruit and pineapple were also present in the OFAM.

The Mallroad Project, a Delhi-based indie rock band, the music they create talk about the feelings, challenges, fears, dreams and hopes of a new-age Indian. The Indian Music Experience (IME), India’s first interactive music museum, is a vibrant music hub, providing visitors a unique experience of India’s rich cultural heritage. The aim of this centre is to increase the understanding and appreciation about the diversity of Indian music, from the traditional to the contemporary. The IME is an initiative of the Indian Music Experience Trust, a non-profit public charitable Trust, supported by the Brigade Group. The Founder of IME is MR Jaishankar, Chairman and Managing Director of the Brigade Group.
Located in JP Nagar 7th Phase, within the Brigade Millennium Enclave, the Indian Music Experience houses three main sections — a state-of-the-art interactive Exhibit Area, a Sound Garden and a Learning Centre. The Exhibit Area consists of 8 thematic galleries showcasing various facets of Indian music, an instruments gallery with over 100 musical instruments, three mini theatres, and several computerbased interactive installations that allow the visitor to experience the process of music-making. The exhibits feature rare and precious memorabilia belonging to the Bharat Ratna musicians of the country— Bismillah Khan, Bhimsen Joshi and MS Subbulakshmi, while the artefacts of Lata Mangeshkar and Ravi Shankar are expected soon. In addition, a performance costume worn by Daler Mehndi, a rare phonograph and gramophone, a selection of microphones, gramophone records and other artefacts form part of the collection. The Sound Garden features musical sculptures that introduce visitors to the principles of sound. The Learning Centre is at the forefront of delivering high quality music education at the IME and at schools through its outreach program. In addition, the IME houses various spaces such as a rooftop amphitheatre, a multipurpose mini auditorium and a seminar hall. The centre also features a Café and a Gift Store with specially designed products by the well-known product design house— Foley Designs
HISTORY AND MILESTONES
The IME is located in JP Nagar, South Bangalore, within Brigade Millennium (completed in the year 2000), which is Bangalore’s first integrated enclave comprising apartment blocks, a school, a stateof-the-art convention centre and a clubhouse. In large developments such as this, a portion of the development is demarcated as a Civic Amenities site which is allotted by the Bangalore Development Authority [BDA] for a broad range of community development activities. In the year 2008, a group of residents of Brigade Millennium headed by Mr. P. V. Maiya came together to form the Brigade Millennium Welfare Trust (later renamed as the Indian Music Experience Trust) with the support of the Brigade Group, and the two acre CA site was allotted by the BDA to the Trust for the purpose of promoting social and cultural activities. The Trust conducted surveys in the neighborhood and had consultations with several opinion leaders, artists and cultural leaders in India, and a large majority indicated a need for and an interest in music-related activities. In parallel, Mr. M. R. Jaishankar visited the Experience Music Project in Seattle, USA, which is one of the foremost interactive music museums of the world. Thus, the idea of setting up a similar worldclass interactive museum dedicated to Indian music was born. In the year 2010, an architecture design competition was conducted for the design of the museum building, where eight young and talented architecture practices of Bangalore were invited to submit design proposals. A jury comprising eminent personalities of Bangalore chose the proposal submitted by Architecture Paradigm as the winning design, and the team was then sent to study the finer points of museum design by visiting some of the best museums across the world. As a result of the study tour, The world–renowned exhibition design firm, Gallagher and Associates, were chosen to create the exhibits inside the museum. Gallagher and Associates are one of the foremost museum designers in the world, having worked on projects such as the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles and the Woodstock Museum in New York. The 50,000 sft IME building was completed in 2013 and inaugurated by the then Hon. CM of Karnataka, Sri Siddaramaiah. The Learning Centre was completed in 2015 and imparts high quality music education to over 100 students in various disciplines. The Sound Garden, featuring 10 unique musical sculptures was inaugurated in 2017 and attracts several hundred visitors a month, as well as school groups. The multimedia exhibits and interactives were completed in May of 2018 when a soft launch was held. The museum will be fully inaugurated and open to the public by Sep-Oct 2018.

The Indian Music Experience Trust comprises accomplished personalities of Bangalore such as the Chairman PV Maiya (ex-MD ICICI Bank), Nirupama Rao (former Indian Ambassador to US, China and Sri Lanka), Irfan Razack (MD, Prestige Constructions), Balakrishna Hegde (MD, Chartered Housing), P Pradeep Kumar (ex MD, State Bank of India), Kusuma Muniraju (noted advocate) and others. Manasi Prasad, Carnatic musician and IIM Bangalore alumna is the Project Director and Dr. Suma Sudhindra, veena exponent and founder of the Bangalore International Arts Festival is the Director – Outreach. The museum’s advisory board is headed by SM Krishna (former External Affairs Minister) and has Dr. L Subramaniam (violinist), Kiran Mazumdar Shaw (MD, Biocon), N Murali (President, Madras Music Academy) and others. The curation of the museum content was guided by a committee of subject matter experts, headed by noted musicologist Dr. Pappu Venugopala Rao, and also included Jayant Kastuar (Kathak exponent and former secretary of Sangeet Natak Akademi), Rajiv Vijayakar (Hindi film journalist) , Deepak Raja (musicologist), Vikram Sampath (author and historian) and others.
Artist Aloud released a new single called ‘Jaag’ by award-winning British Indian singer/ songwriter, ShahinBadar. Available across the Hungama network starting today, Jaag is a song about women empowerment and encompasses empowering themes of womanhood and liberation, and acceptance of beauty and self-love. The first-of-its-kind Orange festival of Adventure and Music is back with a BANG!! This year the OFAM, its popular name, will be hosted in the serene village of Dambuk in the naturally beautiful state of Arunachal Pradesh. Dambuk is a pristine village, inhabited mostly by the brave and ferocious ADI tribe, located in the breath-taking Lower Dibang valley from the 15th-18th of December.
The OFAM in its 5th year now, has seen a steady rise in its fanfare among many a music and adventure enthusiasts as it promises many memorable experiences. The village settlement lies on the banks of the mighty Dibung river and the well known giant called the Brahmaputra is just across the hills. One of the notable events recently in the Food world was the Food Food Awards organized by the TV Channel in association with BBC Good Food Magazine, that had some of the most talented Chefs, Restaurateurs, Mixologists and other food folks together. One of the surprises of the evening was that Anaida-The Princess of Pop of yore was given the coveted prize for the Best Chef of the Year in the stand alone Restaurant category for 2018.
If you are a 90s Kid you would be nostalgic about the Hindi pop era that started around then. Singers like Alisha Chinoy, Baba Sehgal and Anaida helped pioneer a new of era and Music and entertainment. Little did anyone know the teenager who released the first ever Hindi pop single “Hotline” in India did barely speak any Hindi at the time. She went on to sing in 13 languages and on to international projects and then followed it with painting and leather carvings and producing meditation tracks one of which topped the UK Itune charts a year ago she has constantly dabbled in different forms of arts simultaneously what the world had no idea about is that she loves to cook until we were informed that she received the Best Chef of the year award for a Standalone Restaurant category recently at the Good Food Awards in Mumbai.

She also writes a column with recipes on healing food for BBC Good Food Magazine and conducts workshops for charity on multiple wellness modalities such as Stress Management, Energy alignment, Food and Spirituality, Art and spirituality called “Power of YOU”.
Anaida has been busy with Holistic ventures for the past few years with Food and Spirituality. Singer Darshan Raval has all the reason to celebrate this festive season as his two chartbusters Chogada Tara from Love Yatri and Kamariya from Maitron still ruling the roost on all major music charts. The two tracks are currently on #1 and #2 respectively on Mirchi Top 20..Darshan feels blessed to have received so much love for both of his songs and due to the festive season, the tracks have soared even higher, “During Navratri Chogada Tara played across all Navratri pandals in the country and Kamariya too has been a favourite amongst the youth. With Diwali, the popularity of the songs has only risen further” says a source close to Darshan.
With the onset of the Wedding season, its likely that the two chart busters will hold their numero uno spots for a while. Commenting on the same, Darshan says he’s grateful to the audiences who have given both the songs so much love, “Im glad both Chogada Tara and Kamariya are doing so well. Members South Indian Music Companies Association (SIMCA) has entered into an agreement for monetizing its public performance rights with Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL). This tie-up gives PPL access to over 100,000 sound recordings from films, independent & devotional albums, songs from Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Sanskrit and Malayalam.
With the likes of 5 Star Audio, Star Audio, Satyam Audio, Amudham Music, Millenium Audio, Symphony Recording Company, Mass Audio, Nadham Audio, Melody, Modern Cinema and 45 other record labels coming on board, PPL increases its offering in classics from maestros like S.P.Balasubramanyam, KJ.Yesudas, Chitra and M.S.Subbulakshmi. SIMCA members command more than 60% market share in the south Indian music market. SIMCA continues to monetize its content on Radio & Digital platforms directly.

Vinod Krishnan is an established multi-faceted musician – singer, composer and educator. He is a trained singer specializing in South Indian Classical or Carnatic music. He has composed several singles in genres such as pop, classical, acapella and jazz, among others. He has sung extensively for several dance productions that include popular and ancient Indian dance forms such as Bharatanatyam and Kathak. He is also a pianist, who is merit certified in the Digital Keyboard Grade Exams conducted by the Trinity College of Music, London. He has collaborated with artists globally, from cities like Dubai, Toronto, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, San Jose, Dhaka (Bangladesh), Dubai (UAE), to name a few.
Born in Chennai, India, Vinod Krishnan actively learnt Indian Classical music from the age of 4 years from world renowned musicians such as Madurai T.N. Seshagopalan and Neyveli R. Santhanagopalan, who have received the Padma Bhushan awared in 2004 (Padma Bhushan is India’s 3rd highest civilian award for excellence in arts, among other categories).Vinod Krishnan has been a stage performer since the age of 11 years, In 1998, he won the prestigious CCRT (Center for Cultural Research and Training) scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. He received this scholarship for South Indian Classical music in the vocal category, for 8 years in a row, until 2006. This scholarship is awarded to students who display exemplary talent in the arts.
Winner of the MIT Ideas Global Challenge and US Creative Business Cup 2012, IndianRaga is an educational startup founded at MIT. One of the avenues that IndianRaga provides to further the arts, is a 10-12 day fellowship to bring together world class musicians to collaborate over, to create world class music productions that go viral on social media and represent the highest quality and novel ways of musical collaboration. In the 2016 fellowship Vinod Krishnan was selected as a senior fellow for South Indian Classical music (Carnatic music). He created several viral video productions that showcased his excellence in Indian music and other genres like pop, acapella, jazz as he combined several genres to create new soundscapes that went viral on social media and was praised by eminent artists and were featured in digital news media.
IndianRaga Fellowship 2017
Impressed by Vinod’s creativity and professionalism in the 2016 fellowship, IndianRaga invited Vinod to return to their 2017 fellowship as Creative Director for music. In this role, Vinod created, arranged and performed in several music productions with the 2017 fellows. He mentored over 30 teams of musicians and singers to create novel music productions that furthered the art forms and went viral on social media and continue to do so. He also evaluated, judged and shortlisted the fellows from a talent pool of several hundred highly talented applicants globally. Candidates applied from USA, India, Dubai, U.K, to name a few countries. Vinod evaluated candidates not only in the South Indian Classical music categories for vocal and instruments, but also in other categories of the fellowship such as North Indian Classical music (a.k.a Hindustani Classical music), Contemporary vocal and instrumental and World music vocal and instrumental.Seeing his success at the 2016 fellowship, IndianRaga and other independent artists collaborated with Vinod to create viral videos.
Vinod Krishnan will soon be performing at Indian Raga's first ever concert in London. He is going to perform 2 concerts in London and conduct workshops, as a featured performer for IndianRaga's first ever "IndianRaga Festival". The fest is on Jan 19 and 20 in London. He will be performing live along with Mahesh Raghvan, another musician from Bangalore. Mahesh and Vinod are both creative directors for IndianRaga since 2017.
Those of you who have been around from the 1960's through the 1990's will remember the vibrant live music scene in almost every starred hotel in India. Those were the days when you walked into a nightclub like 'Rendezvous' at The Taj Mahal hotel and 'Supper Club' at the Oberoi Sheraton in Mumbai to see curtains going up on a band that was the prime focus of these outlets. Every seat in these restaurants allowed an unobstructed view of the band that performed every night on resident contracts. Today all this has disappeared thanks to some ridiculously high entertainment taxes on live music. Today, non off these hotels have complete bands playing save for a few that feature small duos or solo singers. The Lodhi in New Delhi, recently listed among the world's best hotels, decided to step in and rewind to the good old days. They got Goa's premier jazz quartet 'Jazz Junction' to move to Delhi on a resident contract and the decision has paid off in terms of footfalls generated by the band. Jazz Junction featuring singer Daniella Rodrigues, pianist Tony Dias,
bassist Colin D'Cruz and drummer Angelo Colasco began playing at The Lodhi in June 2018. Four months into the contract the band generated a sizeable following, with quite a few high profile guests choosing to celebrate their special occasion at the Elan bar where the band performs. Against all odds the rewind option proved to be a huge success and hopefully other properties around the country takes the cue to trigger a whole new revival of live music.
