Joelene Dove is an Independent Artist- Singer, Music Producer, Lyricist and Composer based in Delhi In June 2019, Joelene Dove is coming up with an assortment of a few of her songs, an EP she calls ‘Maazi’ (meaning ‘Past') rightly so, since it contains her songs from the past and a latest single too. She’s also releasing 2 videos supporting the new single ‘Tukda- Tukda', and another for the song ‘Maazi. ‘Maazi’, in terms of music and song list, is closest to Joelene's heart…and one can see a plethora of emotions, many facets of the artist in it. As she says, “If you want to know me deeply, just listen to my songs carefully!”. And sure you will when you take a listen of this mesmerizing album.
Having belonged to a family of marketing and medical professionals, music was never an obvious choice for Joelene. However, a music and poetry loving family background did sink it’s teeth deep into her heart ‘n soul. So, after a few years of playing with the electronic media (Joelene worked as a TV editor, creative director, story producer and even an investigative journalist for a few television production houses), she finally ventured into music full time…leaving a ‘safe and steady’ job behind!
From a very young age, Joelene's life has been steeped in music and words- written, sung and spoken. Having spent her childhood listening to Hindi and Urdu poetry and songs… to spending her teenage and adulthood listening to and watching the biggest pop and rock stars, Joelene's personal choice of music doesn't come as a surprise! It’s like she has blended the two worlds using one mould, and the result is a beautiful, soulful and young voice of the soul…a voice of passion, a voice of angst, a voice of truth, a voice that is honest to the core. Her education in Literature and Philosophy also build an enigma through her lyrics, music and voice.
From penning some great scripts for TV channels... to writing articles on fashion, travel and philosophy for leading magazines of India..to giving poetic wings to her imagination and writing songs for various bands and solo artists in India, Joelene Dove has done it all. Joelene Dove is the proud winner of the 'Hungama Artist Aloud' Best Female Artist Award- 2010 for her single 'Savera', which she has penned, composed and given voice to.
Currently, Joelene, who also wears the cap of an Arts Consultant and Trainer, is the Director at 'The Music Monk', an organization dedicated to the nurturing and service of Arts, providing Arts training to students, and also teacher training, mentoring and Arts administration and consultation to educational institutions all over India.
She has also recently launched 'Rustic Chic', her own brand of hand painted farmhouse furniture!
Those of you who have been around from the 1960's through the 1990's will remember the vibrant live music scene in almost every starred hotel in India. Those were the days when you walked into a nightclub like 'Rendezvous' at The Taj Mahal hotel and 'Supper Club' at the Oberoi Sheraton in Mumbai to see curtains going up on a band that was the prime focus of these outlets. Every seat in these restaurants allowed an unobstructed view of the band that performed every night on resident contracts. Today all this has disappeared thanks to some ridiculously high entertainment taxes on live music. Today, non off these hotels have complete bands playing save for a few that feature small duos or solo singers. The Lodhi in New Delhi, recently listed among the world's best hotels, decided to step in and rewind to the good old days. They got Goa's premier jazz quartet 'Jazz Junction' to move to Delhi on a resident contract and the decision has paid off in terms of footfalls generated by the band. Jazz Junction featuring singer Daniella Rodrigues, pianist Tony Dias,
bassist Colin D'Cruz and drummer Angelo Colasco began playing at The Lodhi in June 2018. Four months into the contract the band generated a sizeable following, with quite a few high profile guests choosing to celebrate their special occasion at the Elan bar where the band performs. Against all odds the rewind option proved to be a huge success and hopefully other properties around the country takes the cue to trigger a whole new revival of live music.
